Harcourt Butler Technical University( formerly HBTI) has always been a paragon and a source of inspiration in the field of Science and Technology, since 1921. It has maintained its conspicuous presence in the technical world. HBTU has a history of realization, fulfillment of necessities, and advancement in the field of Science and Technology.
The department of Oil Technology (School of Chemical Technology) is the oldest department of HBTU Kanpur. Since its establishment in 1921, the department of oil technology has made a great strides, in the past few decades.
The department had sculpted numerous technologists, who had proven their mettle by becoming the souls and roots of various industries in the field of research both in country and abroad, and are repatriating credit and fame to the department.

The Oil Technologists' Association of India (OTAI) a pioneer International Association in the field of Oils and allied products, is continuously engaged in disseminating the latest relevant information regarding scientific and technical development by way of organizing symposia workshops, refresher courses, popular lectures etc. on current topic of common interest to its members. The Annual conventions of the Association are also held at different zonal headquarters by turn. The Association functions through its five zones viz. Central, Northern, Eastern, Western and Southern with their zonal head quarters Kanpur, New Delhi, Kolkatta, Mumbai and Hyderabad respectively. The OTAI publishes a quarterly research Journal JOTAI besides publishing books, organizing International and National Seminars, workshops etc. for the benefits of its member.

Oil Technology Department in association with Oil Technologist Association Of India(students chapter) is going to organize a Technical Fest, CONFLUENCE 2K18. The chief objective behind this is to provide technical brains across the nation a platform to showcase their talents. A wide variety of topics have been included to involve students from all genres. In CONFLUENCE 2K18,special focus would be given to the promotion and development of NEW INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES IN OIL INDUSTRY.
